This project is a small book publication for my Type class. The task was to create a book that represents a word that we were assigned. I was given the Portuguese word “saudade. Saudade means, “a feeling of longing, melancholy, or nostalgia that is supposedly characteristic of the Portuguese or Brazilian temperament.”

I created a narrative that describes a daughter leaving a voicemail message to her mom which recounts the time that they spent together when she was a little girl. In the end, you learn that the mom has passed. I wanted to make the narrative now feel somber, yet also nostalgic. I chose the color pallet to portray that same feeling, and the illustrations were created to represent nostalgic events in my childhood.
